How did your professional journey start? For me, my journey started at the very begging working as a dishwasher. The most important, and only rule that I had as I started to pursue my career in “computers” was that I was always making a move that brought me closer to my inner goals; help others, move forward, play with technology. While the subsequent fast food jobs didn’t get me closer to computers, it gave me an opportunity to observe how workforces function in franchises, and large organizations and observe I did. With every subsequent job, I used the opportunity to further learn about the “how” of the businesses. When my sales prowess surfaced while working for McDonald’s (by selling pies 🥧 of all things 😆), I was told I should try to get a job at Best Buy as a PC salesman, so I did and this moved me into the “computers” realm. Many years, organizations, verticals, and so much learning later; I now help organizations align technology and their objectives. It has always been my goal to help others and to stand as a trusted resource in the world of Technology. It took experience to understand what being an effective resource looks like, and to realize I am, and always will be, on a journey to grow myself.Every day is a step in that direction, and I’m privileged to be taking them along side people I truly enjoy working with.I’d love to hear from you 🫵Tell me about your professional start in the comments below ⬇️

Are You Working or Just Doing a Job?In life, we all need to work to earn a living. But are you simply going through the motions, completing daily tasks, and collecting a paycheck? Or could your work be transformed into a career, a pursuit of excellence?"Doing a job" often refers to mundane, mechanical work done solely to fulfill tasks. On the other hand, "working" implies a higher purpose. It's about creating value, identifying opportunities, and bringing about change through your work. So, ask yourself, are you just doing a job, or are you truly working? Does your work have a sense of purpose? Does it ignite your potential and impact the lives of others? If not, it might be time to reassess and seek a job that fills you with passion and drive, turning it into a meaningful career. Regardless of the work you do, it should be a part of your life, not just a means of making money. This way, you can achieve more and genuinely enjoy the process of working. Workplace consultant at Reworc

Excited to announce my new job at REWORC!After a 4,5y journey through the west coast of Europe and Morocco, managing surfcamps and travelling in my van, I have returned to the Netherlands to continue pursuing my passion for creating better work environments. Per 1 May I have started my new job as consultant for Reworc, Rotterdam. REWORC offers organisations a software platform which: - Crowdsources data from employees about their working rhythm & style, satisfaction, team interdependencies, and culture.- Transforms this data into an overview of how the overall organisation, and individual departments, are performing. This includes visualized value networks, mobility, purpose at work, performance on Hygiene factors, and cultural alignment based on the Competing Values Framework.- Helps users digitally create space budgets which take the workstyle of each individual employee into account. The software enables users to test different scenarios in seconds. What happens to your spatial needs if employees come to the office only 40% of their time? What if a certain department shrinks or moves to another location altogether? - Facilitates feasibility testing through the option to stack and block teams & spaces to users’ virtual office locations. What’s my role with Reworc? As their first consultant, I will help clients translate their organizational information into workplace strategies, and help them transform from a project-to-project approach, to a more data driven, process-oriented approach.Behind the scenes, we are also busy developing some brand-new key metrics which will help users assess their workplace performance. If you are keen to hear more about Reworc, or would like to catch up with me – please feel free to drop me a message or visit www.reworc.com.

What does it mean to discount yourself in your career? It means diminishing your value by not performing at your best or NOT doing what you said you would do.😕At the beginning of your career, you are highly valued just like a porterhouse steak. Freshly cut, a steak is valued at $19.99 per pound at the grocer. If it's not bought within a couple of days, it goes on sale for $12.99 lb. A week later, it is ground up for chopped meat and sold for $4.99 per pound.Similarly, every time you fail to meet expectations or don't deliver on your promises, you are discounting yourself an lowering your own value. This can lead to being overlooked, undervalued or even excessed. So, deliver on your promises, perform at your best, and consistently add value to your work. 🚀Be the porterhouse, not the chopped meat. 🥩

As I come up to celebrating my 3 years anniversary with Napco in just a few days from now, I reflect upon the below and how accurate it is.I remember how challenging the first few months were with almost everyone wanting to teach me how to work or provide me "mentorship" or hit me with the classic "this is how we have always done it" . It is even more challenging when - like my case - you are working with multiple countries and with colleagues that you rarely meet face to face.Looking back at it, the first year was one of steep vertical learning of all sorts (technical & behavioral), there were lots of ups and downs and in some cases workplace conflict that needed rounds and rounds of meetings and discussions.3 years later there are still those who still believe and insist that I am still the new guy and that I need their guidance to do my job. However the challenges with how to handle that are by far less than before hoping that one day they will be gone...Getting to know a company culture and fitting in it is as important (or even more important I might say) than having the technical skills that you were hired for.And the higher up the food chain you are, the more important and more challenging it becomes.
